A: It means your videocard behaves in a way that is unexpected to the game. At
the time Ata's engine was implemented, we made
certain assumptions about how the videocards would work to speed up the
execution of the game. Naturally, videocards have changed
quite a bit from those days (yes, it was back in 1998). That's why Ata's
attempts to establish a connection to the videocard
fails.
For some, SciTech Display Doctor
does the job and cures the problem away. Unfortunately, for some it doesn't. Since we have
stopped supporting Ata a long time ago, there won't be any additional patches
either.

Ata was designed to run in MS-DOS 6.0 and up. It worked with Windows 95 and 98,
too, like many similar DOS games did. A lot of
people now have Windows XP, 2000, ME or NT and are
trying to run Ata. It is very unlikely it will work in these operating systems!
Yes, you may have luck and it runs, but more often it fails horribly and gives
that cryptic error code dump. Ever tried playing the old commercial DOS or Windows 95 games in Windows XP?
